About This Work
Glaucus: Under the Sea evokes an imagined world beneath the surface, where water, light and marine life dissolve into colour and movement. Deep blues and greens frame a luminous centre, while flashes of coral, gold and red suggest fragments of life drifting through the currents. The painting captures its sensation—fluid, mysterious and constantly changing. In Greek mythology, Glaucus was a mortal fisherman who was transformed into an immortal sea-god and became a prophetic guardian of the sea. That idea of transformation from the human world into the underwater realm fits this painting particularly well.
